A post from Granny

As some of you may be aware I took Steph away for a night to Torquay for the first time away for us as a couple without the kids since Elliot was born. The kids had two nights with my parents and they had a fantastic time at the farm. Mum has written up a little bit about their time….

Thanks for the opportunity to tell the world that we had a great time with two of our grandchildren when they came for a Sleepover or two!

The weather was not at all kind and rained the whole time until Elliot and Matilda left the farm, when on cue, the sun came out! But we had FUN! After settling in and inspecting the sleeping arrangements, as all good house guests do, we embarked on making sausage rolls for dinner. Various sizes emerged but all created with love and they were delicious, well done everyone.

Having listened to Ruff Ruff Tweet and Dave talking about rainbows and finding objects of right colours, we went on a scavenger hunt (after explaining the word to Elliot, as one does) and made a fantastic rainbow, with the inclusion of white, as Elliot insisted that white was in the rainbow. After a rainbow dinner, we set off in the car and ended up at Bicclescombe Park ….. where we made full use of all the wonderful equipment, scooted around the pond and the rain stayed away most of the time! The new roundabout was the favourite……if a little dizzy making! Home for fish fingers and chips , peaches and raspberry sorbet, and everyone slept well !

The next day, after Grandad had fed the cattle and counted the cattle, on his own as it was raining again, we set off to the Bees, or Quince Honey Farm to most people. Unfortunately the traffic lights at the hospital were messed up and we ended up in a traffic jam. Granny is not a big fan of traffic jams as she has little patience for needless waiting, so we had a nature lesson from the hedgerows, Elliot now knows about various weeds, including sticky buds….we played “which hand” learning left and right….listened to more Ruff Ruff Tweet and Dave (How much can you take!) and EVENTUALLY we started moving again. We had a great time at the Bees after covering the car with our sausage rolls picnic….it never seems so bad when it’s the grandchildren! We bumped into friends there and relations, lovely to see you Linzi and Eve and James! Elliot enjoyed the ride on the bees, after making honey with his pretend bee for quite a while. It’s so sweet to hear his imagination. Matilda was glued to Granddad, who was “the route” to the big slide!

On the way home we went to South Molton park just to make sure everyone was tired enough……more scooting…..then through the woods…..no gruffalo spotted …just a crocodile in the pond, which disappeared every time I looked, but Elliot assured me it was in the long grass. Now we were tired!! Home for tea and bath, with a few bubbles thrown in for good measure.

Everyone was awake a little early for us oldies, so we all changed beds and snoozed for a while longer until Elliot declared it was Granny’s turn to get tea and toast and I was dispatched to the kitchen. Roll on the time when we can dispatch Elliot and Matilda! It’s 3 days later and I’m still finding crumbs in the bed! The rain was even heavier today…….we had hoped to go to Watermouth Castle at some point but we had to make do with looking at the map instead…..Elliot loves maps……we made a castle out of Lego! Later we played caves in the bedroom with a torch, had a music band, read stories, Elliot fell down the step on the way to the tractors…..hole in hand, but he was very brave! We eventually all needed fresh air so we went for a rain walk in one of the silage fields to find the longest piece of grass! We all got very wet but it was different! Sophie the sheepdog was bemused, Elliot flatted a few molehills for Granddad and Matilda struggled over/through the long grass. It’s a happy memory! Mummy arrived after dinner to a very excited Elliot who wanted to tell her everything in 5 minutes flat…….Precious memories!

I enjoy good coffee, good films and photographing my beautiful family. I’m a wedding photographer and also work for a local government authority.

It was so lovely to see you all there. Eve was super excited to tell her Nana that she had seen her sister and that Martin took her down the slide! Ian and Steph, you little ones are gorgeous and were in great hands. You guys packed so much into 3 days! Xxx
